We got married in our own backyard. Nothing fancy—just green grass, that old wooden fence we’ve been meaning to stain, and a bunch of string lights my husband (still weird to say that!) insisted on hanging everywhere. It was perfect. Low-key, no stress, and way more emotional than I expected.

Now about the wedding dress. I knew I wanted lace, and I knew I didn’t want anything too stiff or heavy because, well, grass stains are a thing. I found this off-the-shoulder long sleeve gown online, and when it came in, I literally squeaked. It just had that soft, romantic feel without trying too hard.

The skirt, though? Definitely long on me. I’m petite, so I kinda expected that. But with zero time left for alterations (classic me), I grabbed a petticoat off Amazon two days before, fluffed it underneath, and it gave the skirt that nice full shape I wanted. Did it drag on the ground? Yes. Did I care? Not even a little. The train swept through the grass all day and looked gorgeous in photos, so I call that a win.

The sleeves and the off-shoulder neckline were my favorite parts—they made me feel delicate but not fussy. And the corset back with that little bow at the waist? My bridesmaids got some great shots of me walking up our stairs, and I kept going back to look at those. It cinched just right.

Oh, and I paired it with a blue-and-white bouquet and some tiny blue flowers in my hair. Nothing matching or overly styled—just things I picked because I liked them. That’s the beauty of a home wedding, I think. You don’t have to match a venue’s vibe; you just do you.

One tiny thing I learned: someone suggested adding a button on the inner lining at the back to keep it from slipping. I didn’t bother,  it stayed put the whole day. So don’t stress about that if you’re short on time.

Walking around the yard, holding hands during the ceremony, stepping on twigs and grass—it all felt so natural. The dress moved with me, didn’t overheat me, and caught the sunlight in a way I didn’t expect. Every time I look at our photos, I’m still surprised at how dreamy it turned out.

So if you’re petite, planning something small and outdoors, and you want lace without feeling like you’re wearing a costume—this style is worth a shot. And if it’s too long? Just grab a petticoat and roll with it. Worked for me!
